Thresholds, opening September 20 th at Gallery of Hermosa, Hermosa Beach, is an immersive group exhibition featuring artists Hung Viet Nguyen, Eileen Oda, Angelica Sotiriou, Linda Sue Price, and Snezana Saraswati Petrovic. Curated by Genie Davis, the exhibition explores each artist’s own unique Thresholds - visionary points of entering or beginning. From lush oil and acrylic landscapes and portals to potent abstract neon art and otherworldly 3D printed sculptures of flora and fauna, these artists’ visions shape a lush new world that speaks to the beauty of the earth, the sea, the spiritual, joy and loss.

While the artists themselves did not collaborate, the exhibition is very much collaborative, allowing visitors to view a range of special and secret worlds, from stunning clifftop waterfalls to lush green and gold oceans, astonishing skies and sunsets, the corals of a watery world, and hypnotic neon. Each of the five exhibiting artists have combined their gifts to create transcendent gateways to places that shape visions to cherish and contemplate, expressing the beauty of nature and the wonder of the unknown. The artists create stunningly beautiful and visceral works of the earth, sea, and heavens, shaping mysterious and magical landscapes to enjoy, explore, and contemplate.
Hung Viet Nguyen
Nguyen’s compelling, labor intensive investigations of oil paint reveal a methodical mastery of textures. His work suggests the influence traditional art forms such as woodblock prints, East Asian scroll paintings, ceramic art, mosaic, and stained glass, while his ultimate expression is inventively contemporary.

Eileen Oda
Oda’s vibrant work is infused with her lifelong love of nature, and creates completely original, unique art that expresses and shares her passionate and spiritual view of the world. From colored pencil to large- scale oil paintings and 3D canvas exsculpaintings, she crafts a sweeping yet intimate world both impressionistic and realistic, which she views as “an expression of the soul.”

Angelica Sotiriou
Sotiriou shapes a personal journey of uncovering and revealing pathways, windows and portals of light and spirit. Inspired by the Byzantine process of iconography, her multi-layered contemplative abstract works always find and follow the light as she stands “on a precipice…a witness to voyeuristic conversations exchanged between my mind, my heart and my artist hand.”

Linda Sue Price
Price creates mixed media neon sculpture using abstract shapes bent free form without a pattern, making each shape unique. Her interest is in how people make sense of the world, in which change is the only constant, and our response to change shapes our own personal thresholds.

Snezana Saraswati Petrovic
Petrovic’s exciting multimedia work features an emphasis on plastic, bioplastic, found objects, 3D printing, video, and augmented reality. The stunning and intimate worlds she creates of radiant flora and fauna all begin with her observations of nature and research of symbolic meanings.

Genie Davis
As exhibition curator, Davis brings an exciting collection of museum-exhibited artists to the Beach Cities, one that will provide a radiant art experience for both collectors and viewers. She curated last year’s Leaving Eden at Keystone LA, and next spring will present an international exhibition at Wonzimer Gallery in Los Angeles, Windswept; she is also an arts writer and publisher at https://www.diversionsla.com/, a creative writer and journalist, who as a curator, believes that the voice of the artist is the most important element in any exhibition.
